Introduction to Game Programming

$20.00

This is a 4 module class that will usually take about 4 weeks, but students will have access to the classroom forever.

Students will learn how to design and create games and have a lot of fun doing it!

Description

** This class makes a great gift and when you purchase it you will be provided with a printable gift certificate.**

This class is a general overview of some of the elements that go into creating video games.

Students learn about

  • game design
  • game graphics
  • game logic

By the end of the class, they will have designed some fun games, created a number of graphics that can be used in games, played games that teach coding logic and created an interactive e-card. All the online websites they will use will be free and work on Mac or Windows devices – but not always on iPads, iPhones or tablets.

The class is designed to be completed over 4 weeks if students spend 1/2 to an hour each day on it, but they can take as long as they need as it will stay open the whole semester.

This class is designed to precede the Scratch programming classes. Students who successfully complete it will receive a $10 coupon to use on one of our Scratch classes and the students who create the best games, graphics, and e-cards could receive gift card prizes.

Teaching Assistants will be available to assist students who need help.

How the Unit Study classes work:

  1. You purchase access to the unit study. This access is good for up to 4 students. Intended age range is from 4th – 10th grade.
  2. The parent signs into the unit study classroom with the link provided in the confirmation email.
  3. There are 4 modules. These are designed so that you can do one a week. But you can spread each one over 2 weeks. Or do all 4 in one week. It’s your call! You have lifetime access
  4. Parents can get their children to do as many of the assignments in each module as they wish. There will be a variety to cater for all learning styles.
  5. Assignments aren’t graded but we do provide answers wherever needed.
  6. Some of the assignments are games/quizzes that accrue points. When students play these they will log in with a nickname of their choosing. Some of the assignments are projects. These can be posted to a virtual pinboard and at the end of the semester, the top students will win a $10 Target gift card.
