Description
This class is a general overview of some of the elements that go into creating video games.
Students learn about
- game design
- game graphics
- game logic
By the end of the class, they will have designed some fun games, created a number of graphics that can be used in games, played games that teach coding logic and created an interactive e-card. All the online websites they will use will be free and work on Mac or Windows devices – but not always on iPads, iPhones or tablets.
The class is designed to be completed over 4 weeks if students spend 1/2 to an hour each day on it, but they can take as long as they need as it will stay open the whole semester / summer / fall.
This class is designed to precede the Scratch programming classes.
How does this class differ from the paid Intro to Game Programming Class?
- There are no teachers or teaching assistants in the class to offer help if students get stuck
- There are no prizes for great projects
- There are fewer assignments – none of the essential ones are missing, but there are more in the paid version.

How this class works:
- You “purchase” access to the unit study (Cost is $0). This access is good for up to as many students as you wish. Intended age range is from 4th – 10th grade.
- The parent signs into the unit study classroom with the link provided in the confirmation email.
- There are 4 modules. These are designed so that you can do one a week. But you can spread each one over 2 weeks. Or do all 4 in one week. It’s your call! All the modules will be available indefinitely.
- Assignments aren’t graded but we do provide answers wherever needed.
