Description
Course Description
Anatomy and Physiology is a dynamic, year-long high school course that explores the structure and function of the human body. Students will investigate how cells, tissues, and organs work together within each system to maintain homeostasis and sustain life. Through engaging, interactive learning experiences, students will gain a deep appreciation for the complexity and marvel of the human body.
This asynchronous course is designed for flexibility while maintaining structure. Each week, students will receive teaching videos and weekly assignments (with due dates), allowing them to work at their own pace within the weekly schedule. Course material will be presented through high-quality instructional videos, hands-on activities, patient case studies, online simulations, and labs.
Additionally, students will engage in project-based learning, where they will apply their knowledge in creative, meaningful ways—whether by researching medical conditions, designing models, or analyzing real-world case studies. Whenever possible, students will connect what they learn to practical applications in healthcare, medicine, and everyday life.
Topics of Study:
- Anatomical Positions and Terminology
- A Review of Cells and Cellular Biology
- The Four Types of Tissues in the Human Body
- The Integumentary System
- The Skeletal System
- The Muscular System
- The Nervous System (Including the Senses)
- The Endocrine System
- The Circulatory System
- The Lymphatic System (Including Immunity)
- The Digestive System
- The Respiratory System
- The Urinary System
- The Reproductive System and Human Development
By the end of the course, students will not only have a strong foundational understanding of human anatomy and physiology but also experience how this knowledge can be applied to real world situations.
Prerequisite: because a basic understanding of cell structure and processes is necessary for this course, students should have completed high school biology before attempting this course.
