Free PSAT prep resources

Here are 3 free PSAT prep resources specifically designed to help those getting ready to write the PSAT. One uses pen and paper, one is a website and one is an app – so something to suit everyone! You are far more likely to do well on the test if you have spent some time preparing for it.

And if you are wondering whether it is worth taking the PSAT or not, read this blog post  from 7 Sisters Homeschool which outlines who should and who shouldn’t take this test.

  1. Full-length PSAT practice tests

These are on the Collegeboard website (the company that creates the PSAT), so you can be sure they are a good representation of what you will get. I strongly suggest you print these off – there are 2 of them – and take them as a timed test. This will give you a good idea how much time you will have. Once you check the answers, you can see where the areas are that you need more help on.

  2. Kaplan’s Free PSAT prep live

Kaplan has a website with some free online study material that will help predict your score, but they also offer live sessions. These are posted on their website so watch out for them

  3. Practice, Test Prep, & Quizzes

This is a free app from Varsity Tutors. It actually covers a lot more than just PSAT so after you select how you want to learn, you need to select ‘PSAT’ from the drop-down menu.

There is a diagnostic test that helps you find the areas you are weak in. For each question you get wrong, they provide a detailed explanation of the correct answer. They also have flashcards and a “Question of the Day”. Please note: this app is monetized by offering tutors who can you hire from inside the app – but there is so much free you probably won’t need them. This app has 4.9 stars!

As the PSAT is very similar to the SAT you can also use SAT resources to study. Good luck!
